After around 24 years, Robin Hill's much-loved Colossus ride has been given a new name and new concept as it prepares to move to another Isle of Wight attraction - Blackgang Chine.

In a nod to its now former home, the swinging boat will be called The Jolly Robin.

The County Press reported earlier this week that the ride will be based on the former pirate fort playground at Blackgang, which has been demolished.

Those wanting to ride the boat will have to enter through a whale's mouth - thought to be Jonah's Whale, which is set to move from its current location in the park.

Blackgang Chine said: "As The Jolly Robin begins to sway, riders will feel as though they are caught in the very storm that sealed the ship’s fate, with each crest and trough of the ride mimicking the tumultuous waves that once overtook the vessel."

When it arrived here from Italy in March 2000, Colossus was described as "the biggest and best" ride on the Isle of Wight.

The County Press reported on its arrival at the time.

Earlier this week, the theme park teased a second new attraction - something the "little ones" will love.

It said it would be 'one that we are sure will have you jumping for joy and iScreaming for more.'

This led to speculation that it could be Robin Hill's Ripple pillow - or even the cow train.
