A huge name in commercial radio on the Isle of Wight is to leave his role at Wave 105, as it turns into Greatest Hits Radio South Coast.

Andy Shier, who has worked at the station since 2008, will step down as Regional Content Director for Bauer South at the end of the month.

It comes as Bauer Media, the parent company behind the Fareham-based station, rebrands both Wave and Pirate FM.

For more than 18 years, Andy, who was born and bred on the Island, also worked at Isle of Wight Radio in roles as programme director, managing director and as a presenter.

He told the County Press: "I’m incredibly proud of all we’ve achieved at Wave 105.

"For the Wave story to end with our highest ever audience is testament to all the hard work of the team there."

Speaking to Radio Today, Gary Stein, group programme director for the Hits Radio Portfolio, said: “Andy’s immense talent as a programmer has been instrumental in Wave 105’s success over the years and he has been a tremendous manager and leader for our teams in the South and in Wales.

“We wish him the very best for the next chapter of his career.”

As part of the merger, Bauer said 'a small number' of roles at Wave and Pirate FM would be consulted on and freelance contracts reviewed.

Another former Isle of Wight Radio presenter, Rick Jackson, is being kept on and will present alongside Ken Bruce, Mark Collins and Simon Mayo.

Andy will continue to present his show on Planet Rock.
