Businesses in an Isle of Wight high street have warned the closure of a main road into their village could be 'another nail in the coffin', as they called on Island Roads to rethink plans.
An advanced warning notice states Kings Road, Bembridge is due to shut between March 18 and April 9.
The road is one of the main routes into the village and the closure would restrict access between St Helens and Bembridge over the Easter holidays.
They say it would be an 'absolute disaster' and in protest, a sign with the word 'NO' in big capital letters has anonymously appeared on a telegraph pole.
It urges residents to object to the plans and says 'businesses have been through enough'.
Captain Stan's Fish Store, which is based in the high street, said winter has already been difficult and it had earmarked Easter as a period to 'clear a few bills'.
Mike and Ruth Curtis, who own the business, said: "We are not sure who put the sign up but thank you.
"This is an absolute disaster for us and the high street.
"Island Roads have taken upon themselves to cut off the village from the North side for the Easter holidays."
Another business owner told the County Press: "They shouldn't be allowed to close the road. It's one of the only ways to get in."
The Isle of Wight County Press has contacted the company for a comment and is awaiting a response.
