A shoplifter will return to court next month, after breaching his suspended sentence by stealing meat and wine from Co-op.

At Isle of Wight Magistrates Court, on Tuesday March 12, Jamie Matlock, of Hope Mead, Newchurch, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said the 42-year-old stole £30 worth of meat from the Co-operative store on Sandown’s Avenue Road on February 28.

Ms Miller told the court Matlock returned to the same shop on March 4 and stole four bottles of wine to the value of £43.

The offences were in breach of a suspended sentence, handed to Matlock on December 6, 2023.

Matlock has a long list of previous convictions, said Ms Miller, including 11 for shoplifting.

Michael McGoldrick, defending, said his client had a previous class A drug addiction issue, but no longer required methadone after receiving treatment.

Mr McGoldrick told the court Matlock is currently living with a relative, who has warned him that if he commits another crime again, he will be kicked out.

Matlock will return to court on April 5 for sentencing and was granted unconditional bail.
