An Isle of Wight drink-driver who 'rammed into two cars' while nearly four times over the legal limit for alcohol has been banned from the road.

Natasha Cavanagh, of St Andrews Street, Cowes, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday, February 12.

At a previous hearing, the 38-year-old admitted driving a vehicle when above the legal limit in East Cowes, on January 4, 2024.

At a hearing in January, after crashing on King's Road, the court heard how Cavanagh was found sitting in her car by members of the public, who had to stop her from driving off.

Prosecuting, Liz Miller, said they had to lean in the car and switch the engine off. They said: "She was very dazzled, like a deer in headlights.”

A bottle of vodka was found next to her, three quarters full, and Cavanagh was so drunk, she could not remember her address.

Police arrived and she was arrested and taken to Newport Police Station.

Cavanagh registered a breath-alcohol reading of 130 when the legal limit is 35.

The court heard she had no passengers in her car, but it was not her first drink driving offence.

Jim Osborne, defending, said Cavanagh was clearly upset, was fully co-operative with police, and pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

He said she deeply regretted her behaviour on the day, and had resorted to alcohol to numb the mental anguish she was suffering with at the time.

Mr Osborne told the court Cavanagh had been deeply scarred by events in her past, and the public would be better protected if she was given help to address her problems.

Cavanagh was made subject of a 12-month community order, to include 20 rehabilitation days, and fined £518.

She was disqualified from driving for 48 months and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge.
