AN ISLE of Wight teenager who unlawfully fired an air rifle and made threats to kill a police officer has been deprived of numerous weapons, including a crossbow and knuckle duster.

The 16-year-old admitted making threats to kill on August 28 of last year.

The court heard he made threats to kill a police officer, warning him he had a gun and lots ammunition, and telling him he would die if he entered the premises.

The youth also admitted firing an air rifle, and possession of a weapon in a public place,  namely a bow and arrow, in East Cowes, on the same day.

The boy was made subject of a six-month youth referral order, and ordered to pay a £26 surcharge.

An order was also made to seize the following objects:

  • Knuckle duster.
  • Cap gun.
  • Toy gun.
  • Air soft gun.
  • Black BB handgun with magazine.
  • Arrows.
  • Black crossbow.
  • Large bow.

As previously reported by the County Press, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary officers descended on York Avenue at 5.50pm.

They were called to reports of the concern for the welfare of a boy.

Police, with riot shields, attended and specialist officers were deployed to ensure the safety of the boy, officers and members of the public.

The incident saw the bottom of York Avenue closed to the public and vehicles were unable to access the Red Funnel terminal for a time.

Businesses and residents were caught up in the cordon and the Co-operative shop was cleared by officers and closed.

Mainland police with 'extra skills' were drafted in and a police dog was also on scene.
