ISLAND Line rail services will again be subject to disruption for passengers as industrial action continues into April.

National industrial strike action by the ASLEF union — now into its second year — will affect South Western Railway (SWR) services from tomorrow (Thursday) through until Tuesday, April 9.

A significantly reduced strike day service will run on a limited number of lines on Monday, April 8.

All Island Line services will halt that day. 

Customers are advised to only travel if their journeys are absolutely necessary.

For those travelling from the Isle of Wight, there will be no trains to stations such as Southampton Central, Portsmouth Harbour, Windsor and Eton Riverside, Reading or Exeter St Davids on April 8. 

For commuters, trains will only run between: 

  • Basingstoke and Salisbury 
  • London Waterloo and Basingstoke 
  • London Waterloo and Feltham 
  • London Waterloo and Guildford via Woking 
  • London Waterloo and Woking 

And overtime bans will affect travel for customers who plan to use the SWR network tomorrow (Thursday), Friday, Saturday and Tuesday, April 9, with a revised timetable in operation. 

On those days, Island Line will operate an hourly service only. 

Customers should check before they travel, as late notice cancellations are possible, say SWR.   

The latest industrial action follows several other days of its since January 3 last year.

Steve Tyler, SWR’s performance and planning director, said: "For essential journeys, customers should check journey planners before setting off.

“During the overtime ban, we are asking customers to check before they travel — right up until they set off, as alterations on the day are possible.

“We are very sorry for the disruption this industrial action will cause our customers and are very thankful for their continued patience.”
