This afternoon (Monday, April 8), the Environment Agency has issued five separate Isle of Wight flood warnings for the high tide at around midnight tonight.

With flood alerts in place for the coast around the whole Island, the Isle of Wight Council is urging the public to avoid using coastal paths and stay away from affected coastal areas, especially during the times below.

For one hour either side of high water, overtopping at Freshwater seafront is expected, and the tide will flood Gate Lane and the A3055 near Afton Road.

Significant amounts of water will surround the Albion Hotel and Lifeboat Station, which may cause internal flooding.

The Environment Agency’s (EA) flood warning duty officer estimates approximately one property may be at risk of flooding.

Tuesday’s (April 9) early morning high tide is at midnight, with the total forecast tide at 5.29 metres.

The tide level is predicted to be higher than recorded on February 14, 2014, when two properties flooded.

For one hour either side of high tide, properties directly on the seafront at Marsh Road could flood.

Tidal water will flow across Marsh Road bridge and fill the Gurnard Lock, which could cause garden flooding to properties nearest the river.

The EA’s flood warning duty officer estimates approximately five properties may be at risk of flooding.

Cowes, East Cowes and Newport
