Recent stormy weather has led to turtles washing up along the south coast — and advice has been issued in case one is found on the Isle of Wight's shores.

Although none have been discovered on the Island yet, over the last week, three Loggerhead turtles, have washed up in different locations not too far away.

Experts believe storms and rough seas are likely to have blown them off course — leading to them being stranded in Dorset, Kent and Cornwall.

The turtles are cold-blooded and usually live in warm Mediterranean waters. Because of this, British waters are likely to led to hypothermia.

What to do if you find a turtle washed up on the Island's beaches?

If you do find a turtle, please call the charity on 01825 765546 and follow the advice in its turtle flyer.

The British Divers Marine Life Rescue is urging anyone who finds one not to put it back into the sea.

A spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, the turtle found in Kent was re-floated back into the sea by well-meaning members of the public.

"They will likely be hypothermic and need attention."

The charity has asked people on the south coast to share the information, in the event any wash up here.
