Another Isle of Wight flood alert has been issued for the Isle of Wight today (Sunday, April 28), as water levels rise in the River Medina.

In the last 12 hours, 28mm of rain has been recorded in Carisbrooke, which the Environment Agency describes as “a very large volume in a short period of time.”

The agency warns that areas in Blackwater could face significant flooding.

The River Medina flood alert follows another Environment Agency alert at the Eastern Yar – which has since been escalated to a flood warning.

From 9am this morning, out-of-bank flooding will affect land, gardens and possibly roads at Blackwater – especially Blackwater Hollow on the A3020 and at Sandy Lane.

At 9.30am, the river will become very high at St George’s Way in Shide.

Further light rain is forecast this morning, and water levels will remain high, and rise slightly, over the next two hours.

The Environment Agency expects levels to fall by 2pm this afternoon, and property flooding is “not currently expected.”

A spokesperson said: “We continue to monitor the forecast. We will ensure the river remains free of any reported blockages.

“Road and land flooding impacts will be more significant at Blackwater. Please avoid walking or driving through flood water.”
