New £500,000 automated check-in gates are in the process of being rolled out by Isle of Wight ferry firm, Wightlink, at two of its terminals.
Ending the need for staff to manually check and scan each ticket, the firm is installing the new technology at its FastCat Portsmouth Harbour and Ryde Pier Head terminals.
Just like those in train stations, customers will be asked to scan tickets before heading through to passenger lounges.

The gates will accept rail tickets with barcodes or QR codes as well as Wightlink paper tickets, passes and online tickets on smart phones.
As reported by the County Press earlier this year, no staff will be made redundant as a result of the change and they will be there to assist passengers, if needed.
A spokesperson for the firm said the new gates are costing half a million pounds.
Wightlink said it hopes the gates will be fully operational by early May.
