A FREE family event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day kickstarts on the Isle of Wight later today (Saturday).

The event, at Newport’s Victoria Recreation Ground, is being hosted by Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council and runs between 10am and 4pm.

A parade from Drill Hall Road is expected to set off at 10.30am, arriving around 20 minutes later for the Lord Lieutenant to take a salute.

There is free transport via vintage Southern Vectis bus, ‘Old Girl’, from Church Litten throughout the day.

Visitors can also enjoy music, vintage stalls and military vehicles.
