A BUSY Isle of Wight road linking two seaside towns which closed and reopened after a motorcycle crash, has closed again for roadworks in the space of hours.

Between the junctions of Alresford Road and the Winchester House car park (the YMCA), motorists are unable to access Skew Bridge.

On the main Sandown Road, Lake, and Arthurs Hill, Shanklin, Island Roads has closed the section during planned carriageway maintenance works, from today (Monday) until 11.59pm on Friday, June 28.

There are diversions in place via Cemetery Road, Green Lane, Landguard Manor Road and Landguard Road.

Blueberrys Cafe remains open as usual.

Isle of Wight County Press:

There was an accident involving a motorcycle, between the junctions with Cemetery Road and Littlestairs Road in Lake, along Sandown Road, at around 3.30am this morning.

The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries, say the police.

The road was shut, in both directions, for the majority of the morning, then reopened, only to shut a few hours later to make way for roadworks, which coincidentally were already planned to start today.
