AFTER realising his dream of playing in the British Open championships last year, Isle of Wight star Brandon Robinson-Thompson will be keeping it alive in another major — The US Open.
The West Wight man, 31, will be teeing off tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at one of the most iconic golf courses in the world, Pinehurst No.2, in North Carolina.
Brandon, who plays much of his golf in South Carolina, will be hoping to take advantage of playing in familiar surroundings ahead of his second major appearance.
He currently plays on the Challenge Tour — earning his spot through final qualifying at Walton Heath last month.
Brandon, who earned a golfing scholarship at the University of South Carolina, played his golf in the Carolinas for seven years, so knows the 'pine and sand' terrain well.
Playing in the US open will be one of the proudest days of Brandon's short professional career.
"I've lived in the US for nearly nine years, my wife's American, it's going to be incredible," Brandon told DP World Tour media.
"I feel like it's meant to be. I got my visa and got married last November. It's going to be really cool."
Brandon will be hoping friends and family will be at Pinehurst cheering him on.
"Playing in big tournaments on a bigger stage, having people there you know, is the best feeling ever.
"I've heard about Pinehurst and its history, so I'm super stoked. I'm very excited to get going and taste a bit of that history."
Since the turn of the year, Brandon has played six tournaments and has seen his world ranking slip from 367 to his current 468.
His best finish this year has been a tie for 13th in the Abu Dhabi Challenge.
“It’s going to be so fun. My wife's family and old team-mates are coming and I've got three friends from the Isle of Wight here with me already.
“The messages and the support I've received makes me feel like it will be almost like a home major.”
Brandon will be teeing off tomorrow from No.1 hole with Jason Scrivener (Australia) and US amateur, Brendan Valdes, at 12.30pm.
Coverage will be on Sky Sports.
