Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary are investigating claims that a vehicle drove dangerously while overtaking a horse near Carisbrooke Castle on Friday (June 14).
Police were alerted to reports of a car driving close to a horse on Whitcombe Road shortly before 9pm.
A witness said they saw a man in a Vauxhall Astra allegedly stop alongside the horse before revving the engine, turning around in a nearby viewpoint car park and doing it again.
It is said these actions startled the horse and its young female rider.
The alleged vehicle involved is understood to be untaxed, with an expired MOT.
A police spokesperson said: "This is currently under investigation, and we are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances."
