Ten Girls' Brigade members from the Isle of Wight District had an unusual sleepover on a Wightlink ferry, a first-time adventure for both parties.

This unique occasion took place on the ferry Victoria, with participants from the 1st Newport and 3rd Ryde groups boarding the 8.20pm sailing from Fishbourne, and disembarking at 8.05am the next day.

During their whimsical voyage, the girls had exclusive access to deck 5, where they played games, ate snacks, and received a hands-on education.

They visited the engine room, Captain Sam's Bridge, and the car deck, learned how to control the sprinkler system, and explored the café area.

Despite the exciting surroundings, not much sleep saw the dawn.

Isle of Wight district team leader, Betty McComb, said: "Wow – what an experience it was for a sleepover in a very unique place.

"The girls had a great time, and everyone was so helpful and kind. Everyone had ample opportunity to drive the ferry and sit in the Captain's chair on numerous occasions - both in the dark and in the early morning.
