An Isle of Wight golf club held its annual Joint Captains’ Am-Am competition last Sunday (July 7), helping raise hundreds for an Island community group.
With 18 teams participating, the Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club event saw impressive performances across various categories.
The event featured a unique twist: a shotgun start and the opportunity to buy and play a ‘Joker’ on a designated hole, doubling the team’s score on that hole.
The best men’s team and overall winners were Will Cartwright, Steve Cutler, Luke Hatch and Mark Taskas, who scored 134 points.
The best ladies’ team, consisting of Chris Gould, Lorrie Hawkins, Corrie Huntington and Christine O-Brien, followed closely with 128 points.
With 125 points, the best-mixed team was made up of Catherine Bachelor, Mike Bulpitt, James Lucy and Bev Whorwood.
The event also had a charitable aspect, raising £654 for Care in the Garden, a Wootton-based not-for-profit organisation set up to create work opportunities for adults with additional needs.
