Isle of Wight ferry firm Wightlink has announced a "last resort" revised timetable on its Portsmouth to Fishbourne car ferry tomorrow (Wednesday).

The absence of an essential crew member is being blamed.

A spokesperson for the ferry firm said: "We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this action will cause but we have been unable to source short notice cover for the absent members of staff and so have taken this action as a last resort."

All affected customers have been contacted and moved to alternative sailings, the company said.

It is the latest disruption to cross-Solent travel.

Yesterday (Monday) was the turn of Red Funnel, which suspended its entire car ferry service after a fault with its linkspan.
