THE Isle of Wight’s first whisky brand — Wight Whisky — has launched its first product.

As the Island's first independent whisky distillery, Wight Whisky says it is "on a mission to shake up the world of English whisky".

The mission starts with its Signature Malt Blend, a product of the company's single malt, coupled with hand-selected whiskies from around the UK.

The barley used in the single malt, is farmed on the Isle of Wight by Isle of Wight Grain, a non-profit organisation that supports and represents the barley farmers on the Island.

Goddard's Brewery produces the whisky mash — brewed and fermented for more than seven days, before the distilling process begins at New Farm, Wight Whisky’s rural HQ, which lies within the grounds of the Nunwell Estate, Brading.

Natural Isle of Wight spring water used in the distilling and blending process is supplied by Wight Crystal.

Wight Whisky, which boasts a "modern approach" to whisky producing, says it has worked tirelessly to discover the finest single malt whiskies across the UK, to "blend seamlessly" into its own.

There are also plans to launch a limited selection of single malts, as well as opportunities to purchase a cask of Isle of Wight single malt.

As a first step into whisky production, Wight Whisky opted for its first product to be a blend, to help establish the brand and raise enough funds to distill and lay down additional casks of its original single malt.

These will mature over the next three years, before it is bottled and sold in 2027.

Lucy Gregg, who co-founded Wight Whisky, said: "Whisky is a product which encapsulates its landscape and the conditions surrounding it.

"The long, lingering sunshine days, salty sea air and nutrient-rich soil on the Island produces a barley like no other, enabling us to transform this simple, local ingredient into a smooth, full-bodied whisky.

"We're proud to work closely with fellow Island businesses — and to make Island history, as its first-ever whisky brand.

"We’re very excited to introduce the Island to the world of whisky."
