The Isle of Wight summer carnival season continues today (Saturday, July 27) with a bumper day of free family entertainment in Sandown.

The summer holiday fun starts with the Children’s Parade, which sets off from Sandown pier at 11am.

Heading along the seafront, the procession ends at Sandham Gardens, where there will be music from Soundwaves Entertainment and comedy and magic from Stevo and Kai.

There will also be an eagerly awaited set by Marnie Marie, the up-and-coming Island singing talent who performance on the main stage at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival.

At 7pm, Sandown’s popular Main Carnival hits the High Street and makes its way through the town with marching and samba bands, floats and all the usual festive and colourful displays.

Paul Coueslant, Sandown Carnival chair, said: “We can’t wait to welcome everyone to one of the town’s biggest days of the summer, and advise people to arrive early to get a good view of the evening parade.”

To take part in the parades, Children’s Carnival entrants assemble and register by Sandown Pier from 10.15am.

For the Main Carnival, entrants assemble from 5pm, with walking entries registering on the Esplanade near the Sundial Cafe.

Floats line up along Culver Parade between Fort Street and the library roundabout.
