An Isle of Wight town centre convenience shop and Post Office is to close its doors later this month (August).
Central Stores, on Well Road, East Cowes is ceasing trading and shutting permanently, it has been confirmed.
The closure also means the Post Office, inside the shop, will shut. The nearest branch is up the hill at Osborne Garage.
A sign on the door or Central Stores said: "Thank you for your loyal custom over the years.
"We hope to see you at out sister store at Osborne Garage."
Karl Love, councillor for East Cowes, claims workers at the shop have been issued with redundancy letters.
He said: "This will come as a shock to many people.
"I will be raising this at the next East Cowes Council meeting as it’s a very important community asset to many local people.
"I will keep you informed of any developments."
Central Stores and the Post Office will be closed from August 12.
The County Press has contacted Post Office to ask whether it has plans to relocate its town centre branch.
