THE traditional annual Sandown Bay Regatta weekend, which culminated in a grand firework display, was a huge success, say organisers.
The regatta, first held in the town in 1857, has been an extremely popular part of the Isle of Wight's summer events calendar which, again, delivered two fun-packed days for all the family.
On Saturday, there was a dog show and free Samba workshop, held at Sandham Gardens, on Culver Parade.

The popular dog show, held in the morning, featured 12 classes to enter, from playful puppy and jolly junior, to adorable adult and waggiest tail, with a best in show and reserve.
At lunchtime, Creative Beats ran a free Samba workshop — a fun and interactive Samba drumming introduction, where making noise was compulsory!
But the regatta really took off on Sunday.
On the Esplanade, although it started off quite misty, the weather brightened up.
The Beach Arena featured all the usual regatta staples — the beach sports, live entertainment and a market.
Beach sports, for fun and sun seekers of all ages, included the tug o' war and all manner of races, including the popular beer and tray race.
Live entertainment included a Punch and Judy show, magic from Randini, performances by the Horsebox Theatre Company and Dance Vibez.
Music was spectacularly provided by the Wight Diamonds Marching Band, Alex Cassidy and his Steel Drum and Creative Beats.
Another interesting creative feature of this year's regatta, was the Grand Regatta Hat Parade, on Sunday afternoon.
All hat makers were given a chance to show off their work and win a £100 prize for best hat.
The competition was endorsed by celebrity milliner, David Shilling, who designed extravagant hats for his late mother, known as the Mascot of Ascot.
Sandown Regatta would not be the same without the grand fireworks display when it got dark.
Sandown Carnival chair, Paul Coueslant, said: "What a day! It was fantastic to see the Esplanade packed and Sandown come to life.
"It’s wonderful to have so many appreciative comments from everyone who came along and enjoyed themselves."
"The fireworks display was incredibly well attended."
