Several pharmacies across the Isle of Wight will remain open during the forthcoming August bank holiday weekend.

This availability will span from Saturday, August 24, to Monday, August 26, aimed at providing healthcare treatments and advice to local residents.

Community chemists are urging residents to arrange repeat prescriptions well in advance owing to the long weekend.

Typically, these outlets need one to two days to prepare necessary medications upon receiving prescription orders.

Furthermore, a broader range of treatments is now in place within numerous pharmacies, encompassing seven specific conditions. These include shingles, sore throats, infected insect bites, earaches, sinusitis, impetigo, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections.

Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) will also operate, rated as an effective alternative to busy Emergency Departments for non-life-threatening cases.

Additionally, sources such as the Healthier Together app and 111 online continue to offer essential healthcare guidance, especially for parents and carers of under-18s.

Finally, mental health support is also accessible via the 111 helpline.

Dr Lara Alloway, chief medical officer for NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight said: "We expect our local NHS services to be busy over the August bank holiday weekend and would encourage local people to choose the NHS service that best meets their needs. If you’re not sure what help you need 111.nhs.uk is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can direct you to the right service, including access to mental health support."
