THE Isle of Wight Met service has issued a yellow weather warning which comes into effect later this week.
The warning, for gales, is active from 2am to 1pm on Friday, August 23.
Local forecaster, Jamie Russell, says we can expect a rather vigorous cyclonic system which will push in from the west on Friday morning.
South-westerly gusts of up to 60mph are likely in some exposed parts of the south and west.
Possible impacts, effects and measures are as follows:
- Falling tree debris such as leaves, twigs, branches and perhaps even the odd downed tree in one or two spots, along with tree debris on roads and walkways.
- Danger to high sided vehicles travelling on the more exposed hill and coastal routes.
- Risk to outdoor furniture and equipment, especially at outdoor events with gazebos and marquees potentially at risk.
- Large waves around western and southern coasts, and this will combine with spring tides, leading to overtopping of sea defences.
