Isle of Wight cyclist to ride 1,000 miles in memory of his mother

Andy Allen, from Nettlestone, will ride from Lands' End to John O'Groats, raising money for Cancer Research.

Andy is hoping to raise over £2,000 and has set up a JustGiving page.

Andy's mother, Julia Allen, died at the end of last year after a long battle with cancer.

Julia met her husband Trevor Allen in Seaview, as childhood sweethearts.

They married at 19 years old and had a long, wonderful life together, including having two sons, James and Andy.

The Allen family were a well-known footballing family, playing for local teams. 

Trevor and his brother Keith Allen went on to have professional careers.

Andy plans to cover the 1,000-mile trip in nine days, averaging around 110 miles per day. 

He will sleep in a tent every night before setting off again. 

Andy starts his journey on September 7 and aims to finish on September 16.
