FIREFIGHTERS from Newport were called to help a driver stranded in a flooded road on the Isle of Wight.
Crews from Newport were sent to Briddlesford Road, Downend, at 11.23am today (Sunday, September 8), following a report of a vehicle stranded in flood waters, near Lynbottom Tip.
The driver had safely exited the car before the crews arrived and was not injured, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

Lynbottom Tip was closed this morning due to flooding.
A fire spokesperson said: "We urge everyone to avoid driving through floodwater. Turn back and find a safer route instead.”
Crews returned to Newport Fire Station at 11.45am.
