A primary school has been recognised for its commitment to water safety.
Oakfield Primary School, in Ryde, has been awarded the highest level of accreditation from the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS).
The school achieved the Water Smart Schools Gold award at the end of the summer term, and believe they are the first on the Island to receive any RLSS award.
The school met several criteria, including enhanced PSHE lessons and a variety of pupil-led activities.
The school is currently under threat of closure.
Hannah Doyle, assistant headteacher, said: “As we are a school by the sea, we are so pleased to have a strong partnership with the Royal Life Saving Society.
"As part of our work as a school to enrich pupils’ personal development, we have commitment to providing safety education to our pupils to help them and their families understand more about how to stay safe by the water and know what to do in an emergency.”
Andy Lane, education manager for RLSS who assessed the school’s evidence, said: "Congratulations and very well deserved! Your school’s engagement with the requirements of the award programme has been exemplary and everyone’s efforts should be celebrated!”
