A popular Isle of Wight pub says "everything is absolutely fine" after a kitchen fire scare this morning (Wednesday, September 25).
Hampshire and IW Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) were alerted to reports of a blaze at the Merrie Gardens pub in Lake shortly after 11.30am.
Thankfully, the Merrie Gardens team were able to contain the kitchen fire before the arrival of multiple Island fire crews a short time later.

A staff member told the County Press that "everything is absolutely fine" and it is hoped that the pub will reopen by 1.30pm.
It is understood that fire crews have since left the scene.
HIWFRS have been contacted for a statement.
