A MET Office yellow weather warning for heavy rain is active for the Isle of Wight this morning (Thursday).
The warning went live at 6am and runs until 9am tomorrow (Friday).
The national forecaster says heavy rain will bring the potential for some flooding and disruption to transport.
What should we expect?
- There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.
- Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to transport services.
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
- There is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads.
- There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.
The Met Office says, whilst some areas will miss the worst, heavy showers and some thunderstorms are expected.
Around 10-15mm of rain could fall within an hour from the heavy showers today, with a few places possibly seeing 30mm over a few hours.
There still remains some uncertainty over Thursday evening and overnight, but some locations may see up 20-30 mm of rain in 2-3 hours, and perhaps 40-60 mm in 3-6 hours.
