Bembridge Cub Scouts teamed up with a professional snapper to help complete their coveted photography badges.
Most people think of scouting as putting up tents and singing around a campfire, but there is much more to the historic organisation than meets the eye.
“Learning different skills and earning badges are all part and parcel of scouting,” said a spokesperson for the organisation.
“We always want to teach our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts different skills, and of course learning how to start a fire, first aid and friendship are obvious ones.
“But with the modern world, technology gives us all the opportunity to be a little more creative.”
To embrace this, Bembridge Cub Scouts teamed up with professional landscape photographer, Chad Powell.
The Cubs were challenged to take a couple of photos with Isle of Wight as the theme.
There were shots from the Donkey Sanctury, a sunrise from the RNLI Bembridge Lifeboat station, landscape shots from Culver Down, and even a dog going ‘mad’ on the beach.
Chad, who runs Printing Powell, was then tasked with picking out his top five ‘showcase’ photos, which he then printed and mounted so the Cubs could cherish them forever.

The winning entries were:
- George’s Isle of Wight steam train.
- Eli’s Bembridge Windmill.
- Oscar’s Ryde Pier at night.
- Jake’s fishing trip to Rookley.
- Megan’s stunning sunrise from her loft room.
“A huge thank you to Chad at Printing Powell for donating his time, expertise, and printing skills,” said a spokesperson for Bembridge Cub Scouts.
“But watch out! There’s some young blood coming through the photography ranks.”
