A RARE and fascinating photo album that includes various images of revered wartime leader, Winston Churchill, on a luxury yacht off the Isle of Wight, has gone under the hammer.

The identity of the buyer remains undisclosed.

The album shows the wartime leader in relaxed, candid moments on the yacht Oceana, alongside his wife Clementine.
The single lot of photographs are believed to have been taken by a family member of Gilbert A. Tonge, the yacht's owner from 1894 to 1919.
A prominent figure in the Royal Thames Yacht Club, Tonge's connections to high-ranking figures in government and industry, suggest Churchill was a frequent guest.

The album includes images of Churchill steering the yacht and relaxing on deck, with his trademark cigar.
Other photographs feature notable individuals, such as Thomas Lipton, the famous tea magnate.
The album's backdrops include passing paddle steamers and warships, which have added further historical interest.
The album is recognised as a valuable historical artefact.
