A recent spate of burglaries has targeted a historic and picturesque Isle of Wight hotel, jeopardising its restoration efforts.

Renowned for its stunning tree-lined beach and rich heritage, The Priory Bay Hotel in Nettlestone is regarded as one of the UK’s most unique properties.

However, criminal activity at the site has caused significant setbacks in efforts to revive the iconic hotel.

Police have reported a rise in thefts and vandalism at the property, including the theft of valuable materials such as copper wiring and plumbing fixtures.

Damage caused by break-ins, including broken windows and doors, has further inflated restoration costs and disrupted the renovation timeline.

In response to the burglaries, police have enhanced patrols in the St Helens and Seaview areas, adding to the hotel’s existing security measures, which include private patrols and CCTV surveillance.

Officers are also urging the public to respect the private status of the property and report any suspicious activity.

PC Martin of IW Police emphasises the importance of community support in tackling the issue.

"If anyone has any information that could assist with the ongoing investigation behind these burglaries, please call police on 101 quoting crime reference #44240485207,” he said.

The restoration of the Priory Bay Hotel is seen as a significant project for the area, with hopes that it will once again become a cherished local treasure.
