A member of the Newport church community has died at the age of 65.

Jillian Mary Willoughby (nee Gray) was born at St Mary's Hospital, Newport in 1956.

Jill attended Nine Acres Primary School before moving to Bearsted in Kent with her parents.

She attended the local primary school then went on to secondary school in Maidstone.

Jill returned to the Island in her teenage years where she undertook secretarial training.

She met and married Ian, who pre-deceased her, and went on to work for a decade at St Mary’s Hospital in the records department before leaving to have their first child, Lisa, followed by her second, Paul.

Jill had many interests that saw her work in several areas of employment. Some of these included working in Boots, as a florist, at the dyslexia education centre and ABK Middle School in Newport.

Alongside this varied employment Jill was a dedicated mother and well-liked member of the community.

Jill attended Gatcombe church before becoming a member of St John's Church, Newport for 15 years, finally moving to Wayfarers Evangelical Church in Carisbrooke,where she had been made treasurer, until her death.

She had many hobbies including gardening, crafting, hiking and singing with the hospice choir.

She leaves her mother, Dorothy, children, daughter in-law, Samantha, and granddaughter, Layla.

Her funeral service was held at the IW Crematorium.
