THE Isle of Wight Community Club indoor bowls season came to a close last month with three days of exciting club competition between March 17 and 19.
On Friday evening, the open pairs final saw Steve Lewis and Ray Byham best Keith Becket and Bill Pike by 25-7, and the very next day, Steve Lewis tasted victory in the two wood singles, beating Martin Butchers by 21-11.
John Crews found his form, beating Bill Pike 21-10 in the four wood singles.
The afternoon concluded with the triples finals – Myles Farrington, John Crews and Martin Butchers getting the better of Mike Cox, Ray Blanchard and Barry Bridgeman (19-10).
In the ladies’ singles, Debbie Crews proved too strong for Cat Mason (21-2).
On Sunday morning, Steve Lewis beat Dave Gustar 21-11 in the four-wood singles plate competition, and John and Debbie Crews beat Martin and Denise Butchers in the mixed pairs (22-17).
In the afternoon, Martin Butchers and John Crews got the better of Steve Morris and Mark Baker (20-11).
The fours was a game of two halves – Mike Lloyd, Keith Beckett, Tony Lloyd and Bill Pike edging out Steve Lewis, Brian Knowles, Dave Gustar and Ray Byham by just two shots (21-19).
A presentation evening will be held on Saturday, April 22.
