AS PART of Bowls England’s attempts to reach out to more people and encourage them to have at the sport, an Isle of Wight club will be holding a free taster session this weekend.
Bembridge Bowling Club, in Mitten Road, is hosting the event from 2pm on Sunday.
"As the name suggests, this session is intended to offer the visitor a flavour of the
sport of bowls," a club spokesperson said.
There are a number of reasons to give bowls a go.
- Playing bowls is very do-able, whatever your physique.
- Bowls is a sport for everybody that will improve your fitness levels and mental wellbeing.
- Bowls is not expensive.
- To get going, you don’t need lots of new kit. Bowls are also available at the club, so you can try before you buy.
- After football and cricket, bowls has the third highest number of clubs in the country, so with so many places to play, it will take no time at all to get to a bowls club close to your home.
- Age and gender differences don’t really affect a game of bowls.
- It is therefore a perfect sport to spend time and enjoy a bit of healthy competition with your family.
- Bowls clubs are sociable places, full of people looking to have fun.
- Bowls is a great way to relax, make new friends and feel part of your local community.
Equipment is provide at the taster session. All you need to bring are flat-soled shoes and an open mind.
