Ryde Rowing Club competed in Woolston Regatta, at Western Shore, Southampton, hosted by Southampton Rowing Club, on Saturday, August 19.
Conditions were far from ideal, however, due to yet more challenging weather.
The Wightlink-sponsored club had a depleted squad, due to holidays, but were able to boat a coxed four, a coxless pair and six single scullers.
Although the Island's Coastal Junior Four, Charlie Watts, Ben Sanderson, Will Hall and Paddy Kearney, with Mai Mackay coxing, finished second to the Hants and Dorset ARA champions, from Southampton, they did enough to win selection for the south coast championship regatta in Folkestone, Kent, on September 16.
There a fine performance by Stella Baisley, who finished second in the Ladies Novice Sculls event.
J16 Scullers, Charlie Watts and Isaac Gibson, could not take to the water due to the conditions.
What of the novice scullers?
Paddy Kearney finished third in his heat and sixth in the final, Will Hall capsized and had to withdraw and Isaac Gibson finished fifth in his heat.
Men’s Coastal Junior pair, Will Hall and Paddy Kearney, finished fourth in their final.
Young Novice Oarsman, Lucas Georgiou, making his competitive debut for the club, against Poole Rowing Club.
