A retired Southern Vectis driver has claimed a trophy at this year’s Ventnor Golf Club Championship.
Dave Griffiths, born in Upper Ventnor in 1946, played in the second round of the competition on Sunday, August 27, and won the Handicap Cup with a score of 134.
A former member of Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club from 1986 until 2000, when he joined Ventnor, Dave retired as a bus driver in 2009 after 42 years of service with Southern Vectis (formally the Southern Vectis Omnibus Company).
This is the first time Dave has won the Handicap Trophy in his golfing career, during which he has spent time as the president and captain of the IW Golf Alliance and captain of Ventnor Golf Club.
Dave was joined by Patrick Smith, a current driver with Southern Vectis and member of Newport Golf Club, who also claimed glory by winning this year’s championship for the 17th time.
