THERE was plenty of competitive spirit being shown for Wight Tri’s final event of the season — the Wight Tri Club Championship Triathlon, held in Sandown.
The event, hosted by the Yaverland Sailing and Boating Club, had been postponed from the previous week due to bad weather and due to a change to a duathlon format, as the sea state was still too extreme for swimming.
The duathlon started with a 2.5km flat out-and-back run along Sandown revetment, followed by two laps of the Bembridge Windmill loop, making up the 19km cycle.
This was followed by a hilly, 5km run up to the Culver Monument car park, then finishing back at the sailing club.
The 2023 Wight Tri Championship winner was Jan Fletcher, who was first in the nominated event, finishing just 22 seconds outside her nominated time, in 1hr 20mins 22secs.
Hannah Bryan came in next, 41 seconds adrift, in 1.30.41, with Chris Till third, finishing in 1.04.06.
Jan and Chris were also the fastest female and male athletes, finishing well ahead of their nearest competitors.
