TWO members of the Wightlink Wight Mountain Cycle Team (WWMCT) team rode superbly on Sunday in tough conditions to earn podium places.
Cross-country cyclists Ewan Cook and Nick Earley came second place in their respective races in the Gorrick Halloween XC Classic, held at Frimley Green, Surrey.
Ewan, cycling with WWMCT veteran Allan Cook, was first off on a very slippery course.
The rain held off for his race, but despite his best efforts to chase down the leader over the two-lap race, he had to settle for his well-earned runner-up spot.
Allan, in the 'Vet' race, finished a respectable mid-pack.
The final race, the men’s 'sport' category, over four laps, saw Nick take on an ever-worsening, muddy track in the poor weather.
Nick started well, soon establishing himself in the top five pack.
After some overtaking, and with other riders struggling in the conditions, Nick found himself in a head-to-head race with another rider.
On one of the last muddy climbs, Nick had to eventually settle for second.
Afterwards, Nick said he was "really happy" with the result.
On October 15, WWMCT members James Brett and Oli Nolan travelled to Popham Airfield, Basingstoke, for the sixth round of the Wessex Cyclocross season.
James (Vet 40-49) battled hard to finish a creditable 20th, while Oli crossed the line in tenth.
