A BRIGHT future looks certain for Isle of Wight junior table tennis player Ryan Cates following his success at Joola Plymouth Junior 2 Star Tournament in Devon.
There he met up with various table tennis players who had come to the Island in the past two years, when the Isle of Wight Table tennis Association (IWTTA) hosted the southern section of the annual English National Leagues tournament.
In the mixed open tournament, Ryan was seeded third in his group and won all four of his matches.
This put him into a play-off against Alyssa Nguyen, who won all her matches in the other group.
Ryan eventually won the match 3-1 and took the trophy.
He also played in the junior U19 singles, finishing third out of nine competitors, making his weekend in the West Country a highly successful one.
Ryan is also part of the newly-formed Isle of Wight team playing in the British Senior League.
