THREE members of the Wightlink Wight-Mountain cycling team enjoyed a successful opening race of the season in the first round of the Gorrick Spring Classic MTB XC Series at Highlands Farm, Frimley, on Sunday.
Ewan Cook and Alfie Haydon were competing for the first time in the Sport category.
Ewan almost won after a cat and mouse battle, coming second by a margin of just one second.
Alfie, despite a crash at the start, strived to reach the front leaders, but his efforts were slowed down by a slower rider and he finished sixth.
New to the Juvenile category, steady performer MacKenzie Cook, came fifth.
The team are looking forward to the next round on March 3.
