In a tense battle between the third and fourth-placed teams, Isle of Wight RFC clinched victory with a dramatic last-minute kick, securing third place.

IWRFC 13 - 12 Overton

The match started explosively as captain Luke Blackman intercepted and scored within the first minute, setting the tone for an intense showdown.

Overton quickly responded, capitalising on a defensive lapse to take a 7-5 lead.

The first half saw both teams fiercely contesting around the ruck with no further scoring.

With the advantage of slope and wind in the second half, IW seized control, with sustained pressure from Blackman, Harri Jones-Evans and Kevin Blackburn, resulting in a try by George Huish.

However, Overton reclaimed the lead with a late unconverted try, going ahead 12-10.

Both teams continued to push, but Island heads went down when Overton were given a penalty 15 metres out and in front of the posts, but the visitor’s kicker pulled the ball wide.

In the dying moments, IW capitalised on a series of penalties, culminating in Huish's decisive conversion, clinching a one-point victory.

Despite recent injuries and fatigue, IW's determination and the coaching staff's efforts shone through. They have a final rearranged game against Eastleigh II on Saturday (April 13).
