A SUPERB innings of 120 from Dineth Thimodya was the highlight of Ventnor’s comprehensive
143-run win over Andover in Division 1 of the Southern Premier League, at Steephill, on Saturday.

The Sri Lankan left-hander smashed 16 fours and two sixes and Dan Cox hit 46 as the Islanders reached 268-6.

George Watts (5-26) and Cox (4-29) did the damage as Ventnor dismissed Andover for 125.

In Division 1 (South) of the Hampshire League, Ryde were beaten by seven wickets at East Woodhay.

Andy Day (51), Ben Shannon (49) and Kerry Rice (42) helped Ryde reach 225 all out.

Meanwhile, in Division 3 (South), Shanklin & Godshill kept up their 100 per cent winning start to the season by beating Southampton Community by eight wickets.

After bowling the home side out for 146, with notable bowling from Tommy Quaife (3-30) and Nathan Moore (2-4), Shanklin eased to victory, with Harry Collier hitting 53 not out.

Ventnor II remain in third spot after beating Bedhampton Mariners by 125 runs.

After setting a reachable target of 176-4, led by Neil Westhorpe (52) and Mark Fletcher (41), the Islanders' bowling attack led by Archie Lucy (3-5), Sam Rad (3-21) and Thomas Southcott (2-4) skittled Bedhampton out for 51. 

Ventnor eased through to the second round of the Southern Premier League T20 Cup after a seven-wicket success at Sway on Sunday.

Teenager, Harrison McQuillan (3-25) was the pick of the bowlers as Ventnor restricted the home side to 137-8.

In reply, Ventnor skipper Henry Bartlett went on to score 51.

In Division 1 of the Island League, Newport beat old rivals Northwood by 106 runs at Newclose, with Grant Richardson (50) and Harry Dye (50 not out), leading the home side to 208-6. Gary Cooper grabbed 4-42.

In reply, Northwood mustered 102 all out, with Adam Wilson claiming 3-27.

Ventnor III chalked up a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Shanklin & Godshill II at Westhill.

Again, Ventnor's McQuillan (3-27) was on target as the home side slumped to 119-9. Michael Compton hit 42 not out for Ventnor.

In Division 2, Newport II beat Ventnor IV by seven wickets. 

The two sides also met in the Fred Winter Cup group stages on Sunday, with Newport also winning, this time by 102 runs, with Aaron Hartup scoring 109 not out.

On Monday, Ventnor’s U13 side beat Freshwater by ten wickets to reach the County Cup final.

Ventnor's women clinched their first win of the season on Friday last week by 14 runs over Ryde.
