A former Isle of Wight surfer will represent England at EuroSurf 2024 in Portugal, which gets underway this week.
Jago Tasker, formally of Freshwater until December 2022, paddled his first waves on the Island at eight years old and attended 'Nipper Sessions' through the iSurf school in Sandown.
Speaking to the County Press last month, Jago's mum, Sarah, said: “If there were waves, he would be there. Before school, after school, even from primary school!"
He caught the competition bug when he entered the English Interclub Surfing Championships at Fistral Beach in Newquay, where he is now a member of the Boardriders Surf Club.
Earlier this year, Jago was selected for the U16s squad at the International Surfing Association World Junior Championship in El Salvador, which he competed at in May.
Jago was also selected to represent England at the upcoming EuroSurf Championship in Portugal next month.
At the time of his selection, Jago said he was "thrilled" to represent England and be part of the U16 team at the competition, describing it as an "incredible opportunity."
To fund the trip, Jago's parents set up a GoFundMe to raise £1,000 to cover the cost of travel, accommodation, coaching, equipment and insurance, and hit the target in just four days.
Sarah said hitting the fundraising target was "fantastic" and "absolutely unbelievable."
The EuroSurf competition takes place between July 18-26 in Santa Cruz, Portugal
