TWO of the Isle of Wight's most competitive football sides put in fabulous performances this afternoon (Saturday), winning in style.

In the FA Vase, Cowes Sports hammered Bournemouth on their own stomping ground.

John McKie opened the scoring inside the opening five minutes; an overhead kick after seeing his initial effort saved.

Will Bridi made it two on ten minutes.

Phillips knocked the ball high from a free kick and Bridi capitalised on a flick on to smash it in.

Just before the break, McKie bagged himself a brace, and played a key role in the buildup.

The goalscoring ace curled the ball in from just outside the box to make it 3-0.

Second half, Bridi scored his second of the afternoon on 56 minutes.

A free kick on the left, played short, found Bridi who beat his man, cut inside, and shot low at the near post.

Cowes Sports capped off a dominant display on 87 minutes; George Carter-Knight slotting it past the keeper after finding himself one-on-one without a defender in sight.

Meanwhile, in Wessex League Division One, East Cowes Vics welcomed Amesbury to Beatrice Avenue.

Vics started well, and an effort from Josh Neales sailed just wide on three minutes.

The Islanders continued as they began, free flowing and making chances.

They took a deserved lead on 39 minutes after a well worked short corner.

The ball popped out to Harrison Yates, and his low fizzer of a cross was dummied by Caleb Neale, which wrong-footed all but Elliot Wheeler, who knocked in from two yards.

Two minutes thereafter, another fantastic move saw Charlie Harts’ effort sail narrowly wide.

The second half started at the same pace as the first, Harrison Yates relentless down the left flank.

In the 59th minute, another Yates cross was met by Josh Neale, whose side foot effort was well saved.

Amesbury pushed hard for the equaliser but the Vics back four stayed firm; the Vics stopper having very little to contend with.

Fellow Division One side Newport, on the other hand, fell short on the road to Cove.

The hosts started the game well, testing the Newport stopper.

The Islanders were not without their chances early on, but it was Cove that found the breakthrough on the half hour mark.

Newport pushed for the equalizer and had half chances but went into the break trailing.

Second half, Newport spurned an early opportunity to level, and soon found themselves a man down.

Cove eventually doubled their advantage to put the result beyond doubt, and the game ended 2-0.
