A last-minute goal dashed the hopes of the youthful Wight Eagles seeking redemption after a previous draw.
The Wight Eagles Ladies FC faced AFC Totton away in Hampshire Division Two, narrowly losing 2-1.
The match marked the first encounter since their season opener, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
Missing some experienced players due to injury, the youthful Wight Eagles side struggled against a stronger AFC Totton team.
Captain of the Wight Eagles, Katie Rann, faced a tough challenge against skillful Totton strikers.
The first half saw the Islanders lacking in flair and fluidity, while the second half was a different story.
With Jess Green and Georgia Dye in the middle, the Eagles began to control the game.
Despite a series of corners and several chances for striker Kira Smith, who was thwarted by the Totton goalkeeper, the Eagles eventually equalised in the last ten minutes.
Georgia Dye's corner kick went straight in, levelling the score.
However, a last-minute wonder strike from Totton secured their victory, leaving the Wight Eagles disappointed.
Manager Dan Verstraeten said: "I thought the ladies played absolutely amazing in the second half really to take the fight to AFC Totton and we look the better side as we went for the win unfortunately again we were undone by a fantastic strike which we needed to close down but these things happen in football."
The team will now focus on their upcoming all-Island derby match against Shanklin Ladies in the quarter-final of the Invitation Cup on Sunday, November 24, at Green Lane, kicking off at 2pm.
